Fire Station #23.

This fire station caught my eye the first night we were out walking around. The buildings these things in are amazing... and after 911 every one of these places has some sort of plaques calling out the guys from the station that died that day. It’s pretty amazing to stand out front of that building and think of all the stories it could tell after all of these years. i also dog how each station seemed to have it’s own custom painted door. i think the next time i go back to new york i’ll make it a goal to visit a dozen or so of these stations and draw them.

Fire Station #18.

i really dig their garage door painting...it was a bicentennial theme and had a full on 1976 style to the illustration. very cool.

Details, Details...

I could have spent a month just drawing pictures of things within 2 blocks of our hotel, and we weren’t even in that cool of an area. the amount of detail work in all the buildings just blows my mind. this building was really nothing special but i stood on the corner with my jaw hitting the ground as i studied all the detail work that went into that building...and there are thousands more like it in that city. proof positive that they just don’t make them like they used to.

what would drawings of new york be without a drawing of a cab?

Old Barber Shops.

that would make another great series f i get around to it. i like “the new barber shop”...ya, new. that was easily the oldest thing in the trendy neighborhood we were walking through when i saw the place. everyone’s gotta get a haircut sometime.

Too Many Damn Cupcakes.

the cupcake crazy seems to be in full bloom in new york. i’ve never been a big fan of cupcakes so i’m not really jumping on the bandwagon. but other people are that’s for sure. we couldn’t even get near the magnolia bakery because the line went around the corner and down the block and stayed that way all day long. i don’t get it. it was mostly chicks waiting so that explains something. maybe i’m wrong but i just don’t see this cupcake thing turning into the next starbucks, but what do i know.if you want any flavor in every color imaginable they have them at those places.

Sneaker Heaven.

give me a good pair of boots anyday, but people are diggin’ on sneakers and i suppose they always have. i don’t need a pair of 1970’s style puma’s but some people do. patrick is way into sneakers and he’s got a couple of really sweet pairs and he knows how to pull them off. he was set on checking this place out. i took one step inside a had a headache. they had thousands of different sneakers. the place smelt like rubber. sneaker porn everywhere. i had to stand outside. i dig their window display...and this is only a small section of it.

Taxi.
